About the Manual
In 2006, the Uu-a-thluk Council of Ha’wiih (Hereditary Chiefs) from Nuu-chah-nulth Nations decided that attracting Nuu-chah-nulth youth to marine-based jobs and careers was an important priority for our communities. Located on the West Coast of Vancouver Island in more than 20 different locations, Nuu-chah-nulth Nations have always been an ocean people. Yet changes and history have distanced us from our resources.
Working on behalf of the Council of Ha’wiih, Uu-a-thluk staff and contractors created Paddle Your Own Č’apac—first in print and now for the web—to show the many ways Nuu-chah-nulth can continue to make a living in and around the ocean. This resource is also available on CD ROM for Nuu-chah-nulth people without Internet access. To order your copy, please call 250-724-5757 and ask for Uu-a-thluk’s Capacity Building Coordinator or send an email to email@example.com.
